Transit: Imagined - A blueprint for Transit in Utah.
Last month, we told you about UTRU's Community Advocacy Training for Transit (CATT) Initiative; this month, we want to inform you of another major project UTRU is working on - Transit: Imagined.
Transit: Imagined envisions a transformative transit system in Utah, where 2.1 million residents have easy access to buses, light rail, and commuter rail within a 10-minute walk. The goal is to provide reliable service from early morning to late night, 365 days a year.
By prioritizing transit over cars, the project aims to address congestion, economic inefficiencies, and pollution. The proposal includes safe walkways, convenient transit stops, ride-sharing options, a robust bus network, dedicated bus lanes, light rail for longer distances, commuter rail for intercity travel, regional rail for rural areas, and high-speed rail connections.
Transit: Imagined aims to create a future that has reduced costly road expansion, increased economic productivity, shorter commute times, improved air quality, and more money in the pockets of Utah families.
We are currently raising funds to fund initial research and development - we are currently seeking $50,000 to do so by applying for grants and by looking for support from individual donors (if you are interested in becoming an official sponsor, reach out to our Executive Director at curtis.haring@utru.org to learn more) to cover the upfront costs associated with the project. |
